Ae Fond Kiss by Robert Burns - a one hour lesson designed for KS5 students preparing for AQA Love Through The Ages (Paper 1, Spec A 7712) or for unseen poetry exam questions for any of the exam boards like Eduqas, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. The lesson explores language and structure, in particular how the speaker conveys his grief and loss at the ending of a relationship, plus how the ending of the poem mimics the beginning to reflect the speaker’s focus on his feelings and how he cannot escape his loss.
Additionally, we look at how this poem is similar or different to others we have studied this term, looking at the different perspectives on love and relationships the poets try to convey to the readers. Comparison skills are essential for Section C of Paper 1.
