Christmas Truce English Poetry lesson that explores ideas about conflict, peace, ceasefires, humanity and more. Students learn about the experiences of the British and German soldiers during WWI who decided to halt their fighting to enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day together - shaking hands, taking photos, holding joint burials and most famously, playing football together. Students then explore and analyse a poem about the Christmas Truce of December 1914, looking at how the writer employs language devices such as adjectives, metaphors, imagery and motifs to convey thoughts and feelings about fighting, friendship, commonality and the soldiers’ desire to share their humanity together despite the political forces that opposed it. Perfect for both KS3 and KS4 classes at the end of year, and also fully adaptable for any of the GCSE English Literature exam boards (such as AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, WJEC, OCR and IGCSE). It can be used for unseen poetry lessons or to in a festive-themed unit on poetry or fiction reading and analysis. **Please leave a review if you are able to.
