In this non-fiction writing lesson, students use look at an example interview to explore the differences between open and closed questions. Students then analyse a model interview article with a famous athlete to see how a writer merges quotations with their own opinions and links between ideas.
Students prepare ten open questions for a potential interview with a school or local sports player or coach. Students will then interview their chosen interviewee and create transcripts in preparation for planning and writing an interview article piece.
This exciting resource for KS3 and KS4 students could be used for an after school or lunch time club, with students exploring non-fiction writing and combining their love of sports with English learning.
