The Garden of Love William Blake A Level Poetry
The Garden of Love by William Blake, a one hour lesson designed for KS5 students preparing for AQA Love Through The Ages (Paper 1, Spec A 7712) or for unseen poetry exam questions for any of the exam boards like Eduqas, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. The lesson explores language and structure, in particular how the speaker uses the allegory of a garden to convey the writer’s thoughts and feelings about the impact of organised religion on the natural order and beauty of the world, including the speaker’s own joys and desires.
Additionally, we look at how this poem is similar or different to others we have studied this term, looking at the different perspectives on love and relationships the poets try to convey to the readers. Comparison skills are essential for Section C of Paper 1.
Designed for the A-level spec, it includes discussion questions and topics for students, as well as a range of activities.
